Migration of Salt Ions in Frozen Hydrate-Saturated Sediments: Temperature and Chemistry Constraints

Migration of dissolved salts from natural (cryopeg brines, seawater, etc.), or artificial sources can destabilize intrapermafrost gas hydrates. Salt transport patterns vary as a function pressure, temperature, salinity, etc. The sensitivity the salt migration and hydrate dissociation processes to ambient temperature concentration chemistry saline solutions is investigated experimentally on frozen sand samples at constant negative (−6 °C). experiments show that solution control critical required for complete dissociation. ions migrate faster more higher temperatures, pore moisture reach salinity in shorter time. flux density contents different transported increase series Na2SO4–KCl–CaCl2–NaCl–MgCl2. A model suggested account phase transitions hydrate-saturated sediments exposed contact with concentrated pressures above below thermodynamic equilibrium, stable metastable conditions hydrates, respectively.
